This country is one of the neediest; there is a high level of poverty here, especially in outlying sectors, as well as problems due to the mortal scarcity of opportunities for development, and the disinterest or difficulty that short-lived governments have in improving conditions.
The population has had to deal with the catastrophic results of Hurricane Mitch which destroyed a large part of their territory. Even now much of the country's infrastructure hasn't been reconstructed completely; bridges, schools, houses and roads were all affected. Despite being a coffee producing country, the Hondurans had to watch their produce rot right where it was harvested, thanks to international trading agreements which imposed restrictions on the commercialization of their products.
As a result the country's economy has worsened, reaching such extremes that the lack of food has caused famine in many towns.

GEOGRAPHY: Honduras shares borders in the southeast with Nicaragua, in the west with Guatemala, and in the southwest with El Salvador. To the north lies the Caribbean and to the south the Pacific Ocean. The interior of the country comprises a central mountain system running from east to west, cut by rivers flowing into both the Caribbean and Pacific. The lowlands in the south form a plain along the Pacific coast. The Gulf of Fonseca in the southwest contains many islands which have volcanic peaks. The large fertile valleys of the northern Caribbean lowlands are cultivated with banana plantations. However, large areas of land in Honduras are unsuitable for cultivation. The majority of the population lives in the western half of the country, while the second-largest concentration of people is in the Cortés area which extends northwards from Lake Yojoa towards the Caribbean.
Climate: The climate is tropical, with cooler, more temperate weather in the mountains. The north coast is very hot with rain throughout the year, and though the offshore breezes temper the climate, the sun is very strong. The dry season is from November to April and the wet season runs from May to October.
Required clothing: Lightweight cottons and linens; warmer clothes are recommended between November and February and in the mountains. Waterproofs are needed for the wet season.
Food: All meals are provided. It's exciting to try the exquisite local food, taste new and exotic fruits and the typical dishes prepared especially for you, all this is enough to satisfy even the most demanding of palates.
Accommodation: Volunteers stay in comfortable hotels, guest houses or suitable private homes and community centers; generally in double rooms. In some cases, single rooms may be arranged, although there might be an extra charge for this.
Transportation: During your stay travel by land; transfer to and from the airport to the hotel at arrival and departure times, and daily transportation from the hotel to the place of service will be provided.
Schedule and Free Time: The team work is carried out from Monday to Friday, during office hours. between the 8:30 a.m. 16:00 p.m. Afternoons and weekends are free for you to do any social or touristy activities alone or with the rest of the team. The tours in Honduras are amazing experiences
